Fawns are rarely actually abandoned! Do not try to rescue fawns unless you know for certain they are in danger or the mother has been killed. Many times the mom leaves them for an extended period of time, even in surprising places like front yards. This fawn’s mom returned several hours later

The fawns are still arriving! The peak fawning season for females that were bred when they were six months old and are giving birth at one year old peaked on June 19, with 90% giving birth between May 22 and August 4. If you come across a fawn that is laying alone in the woods or a field, or is moving alone, this is normal! They are not abandoned. They are “hiding” from predators or moving to a new hiding spot. Does are usually not far away and return to their young to nurse usually in the morni

This group of fawns had all been hit by cars and have recovered from head trauma. Every couple of weeks throughout the fall, we will be releasing another group of fawns. We will be wintering over the late season fawns until closer until spring. About a dozen fawns, the piebalds and blind fawns, will be staying in our forever sanctuary. This is the time of year that the quickly growing fawn's milk intake increases, and so does their grain. We still feed the released fawn throughout their first wi

We took in 113 fawns here at Texas Fawn this year❤️More bucks than does , which is normal. Oddly, we never got a set of twins or triplets in this year , unlike in years past where we have had several sets ❤️I wish we could say we saved all of them , but unfortunately we did not 💔 I’m thankful for the help I had this year ❤️Gayle , Kaylee, Kent , Nancy , Tiffany and Jean ❤️We are not far away from our soft release ( releasing the fawns)💥We will be holding over some fawns thru the holidays and i

The past few years, we have had to rescue over 100 orphaned and injured fawns yearly. Before that, the numbers we about half of that. The increase is mostly due to deforestation in the upstate due to housing developments. I hope th7s year is not so busy, but I have a feeling it is going to even be worse. You can help by helping by sharing our post and spreading the word, 'not to baby nap fawns.' Not all fawns found need our help. Most are not orphaned but just waiting for mom to return from graz

That bump you felt while mowing? It was a family. 🪺💔 Spring is nesting season. And your lawn is a nursery. Ground-nesting birds lay eggs directly in grass. Killdeer. Meadowlarks. Sparrows. They can't move the nest. They sit and pray you don't come. You came. Baby rabbits are born in shallow nests called "forms." Hidden in lawn edges. They don't run. They freeze. They trust the grass to hide them. The mower doesn't care. Fawns are left hidden in tall grass by mothers who forage nearby. They're

Last spring, a fawn had nestled up in a garden bed as she awaited her mother’s return. Nearby, a curious homeowner gazed at the rare sight, but she became worried when she spotted something concerning. To her, the baby animal’s ears appeared curled (a sign of dehydration). And when it had been over 24 hours with no sign of the fawn’s mother, the caring homeowner thought the little one was orphaned. She contacted Toronto Wildlife Centre for help, and the Rescue Team arrived to bring in the young

Wildlife & Animals on Instagram: "A baby deer, also known as a fawn, is easily recognized by its slender legs, big eyes, and white spots on its back, which help it blend into the forest. Fawns are usually born in spring and spend their first weeks hidden in tall grass or bushes while their mother forages nearby. They stay very still and quiet to avoid predators. As they grow stronger, they begin to walk, run, and follow their mother, learning how to survive in the wild. Video credit goes to: lad
