The Southern Boobook is Australia's smallest and also most common owl. It is also known as the 'Mopoke', can you hear why? These owls feed mainly at night on insects and small mammals like mice. They locate their prey by listening and watching from a tall perch and they take flying prey like moths and small bats in mid-air while ground prey are pounced upon.
