In 1998, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee hosted A Separate Cinema on TCM, a five-week film series saluting the Black independent film industry of the early 1900s. From Oscar Micheaux to Clarence Muse, it showcased those who established a successful underground movement outside of Hollywood.
