This creates a complex form of mirage that distorts and magnifies distant objects, forming inverted and upright images that stack on top of each other. The name Fata Morgana comes from the Italian translation of Morgan le Fay, a sorceress from the legend of King Arthur who was believed to create false castles and lands in the air to lure sailors to their doom
