Pinus Plantation
New Zealand's dominant pine tree is the Radiata pine (Pinus radiata), a fast-growing, versatile species native to California and Mexico that was introduced for its timber. It forms most of New Zealand's plantation forests and is used for a variety of timber products. While beneficial for commercial timber, uncontrolled Radiata pines can become problematic "wilding pines," spreading into natural areas and causing significant environmental damage. 🇳🇿 i love this walking tracks in Tokoroa the Tim

Not so fun fact....Did you know, a mature Pinus radiata tree can produce between 0.5 and 0.75kg of pollen each year. Typically, plantation forestry is 400 trees per hectare, so up to 300kg per ha per year may be produced. The way pollen travels is also very interesting. It is dependent on the wind when the pollen is shedding. Some of the pollen may be deposited near the source trees, but much of it will move a lot further. | Ohai Views
