When walking them, be sure to stay mostly on grass and off the roads or sidewalks. Hot pavement can burn their paws, and a good rule of thumb is if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their feet.

The National Weather Service says an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, with the combination of heat and humidity resulting in heat indices up to 105. There's also a risk for severe thunderstorms producing damaging wind gusts Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The dry weather will stick around through the weekend and into next week.
