An Associated Press analysis of emergency communications shows that the first evacuation order covering neighborhoods closest to the start of the devastating Pacific Palisades wildfire didn’t come until about 40 minutes after some of those homes were already burning.

Fire officials have lifted several evacuation orders and warnings in the Palisades Fire area. As residents return to their homes, they are faced with the destruction left behind.

Some people were allowed back into once-evacuated areas of California Friday night after the palisades wildfire in Los Angeles. A makeshift community command post filled with donated supplies, water and food has been set up.
