Temperatures in the area are near 100 degrees and humidity as low as 15 percent. The southern part of California has seen very little rain, drying out vegetation and making it "ripe to burn," the National Weather Service (NWS) for Los Angeles warned.

An evacuation order has been issued for all of Lake Piru Recreation Area and east to the Los Angeles County line, south to SR 126, west to Center Street.

Amid high heat, a brush fire broke out near Lake Piru in Ventura County Thursday afternoon. The so-called Canyon Fire erupted just before 1:30 p.m. southeast of Lake Piru in Ventura County, near the border of LA County.
