A day after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced plans to redraw California's congressional districts, a proposed map of the new districts was released.

“Our proposed map was created using traditional redistricting criteria, consistent with guidelines laid out by the California’s Citizen Redistricting Commission,” according to a cover letter from Julie Merz of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee included with the map.

Currently, Palm Springs shares representation with Idyllwild and Rancho Mirage in Calvert’s District 41, which covers the southeast portion of California. Under the new proposal, District 41 would be completely relocated to include cities such as Lakewood, Bellflower, Downey, Brea and La Habra, removing the desert communities entirely.

“We are entitled to five more seats” in Texas, Trump insisted Tuesday in a CNBC interview. He pointed to California’s existing maps, which are drawn by an independent commission unlike the Texas maps crafted by a partisan legislature: “They did it to us.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The first draft of California's redrawn congressional district maps has been released. The submitted map leaves eight districts untouched and, in 20 districts, fewer than 10% of residents are impacted. It also splits fewer cities than the current map, which was changed back in 2020.
