The stage is set for this season’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 fixtures after fans witnessed some upsets in the playoffs stage last month. The Round of 16 begins this week when several European top clubs will compete for a spot in the Champions League quarter-final.

The UEFA Champions League round of 16, quarterfinal and semifinal draws took place on Friday as Europe's leading soccer competition takes its final form for this season. The top eight teams from the league phase led by Liverpool and Barcelona qualified automatically for the round of 16 while eight teams have emerged from the knockout round playoffs which are part of this year's new format.

Barcelona could make it seven victories on the spin on Sunday in Spain's La Liga as they host the unpredictable Real Sociedad on Sunday.  The in-form home side will be determined to win and return to the top of the table after Saturday's results saw Atletico Madrid rise to the summit with a 1-0 win over Athletic Club.
