Actor Kim Sae-ron’s death adds to the list of celebrity deaths in South Korea that underscore the enormous pressure they face under the gaze of a relentlessly unforgiving media that pounces on their every misstep.

After South Korean actor Kim Sae-ron was found dead in her home on February 16, multiple Facebook pages with tens of thousands of followers shared images falsely claiming they show surveillance footage of her last moments in an elevator.

The 24-year-old star, once a prolific child actor, appeared at the Cannes Film Festival and on Netflix, until a drunk-driving incident in 2022 derailed her career.
