Transparency advocates are questioning the Penn State Board of Trustees’ use of closed-door meetings for discussion of potential campus closures that would affect thousands of employees and students.

Citing its importance to the region and the diverse population it serves, Penn State officials are recommending keeping Penn State Scranton open to be a hub for Penn State in Northeast Pennsylvania. In a report issued Tuesday,

According to Spotlight PA, which obtained internal records regarding the campus closures, the reason Wilkes-Barre is recommended for closure is because its campus is small and has limited housing, which makes it less appealing than nearby locations like Scranton and Hazleton.

Jeffrey Osgood, executive vice president and chief academic officer at West Chester University, is being recommended to fill the vacancy at Commonwealth University.
