The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy as Basil Powell, 39, who had worked at the West Corrections Center for three years.

PBSO says Basil Powell, 39, was returning home around 7:30 p.m. Monday. As Powell got out of his car, he was immediately shot multiple times.

Deputy Sheriff Basil Powell was assigned to the West Corrections Center, having been hired in October 2021. PBSO once again stands together, honoring our deputy’s memory and supporting his family, friends, and colleagues through this time of immense sorrow.
