Merrill Kelly allowed one hit in seven dominant innings, outpitching eight-time All-Star Chris Sale, and the Arizona Diamondbacks held off the scuffling Atlanta Braves 2-1 for their third straight victory.

Merrill Kelly was just too much for Atlanta’s lineup to deal with in this one. Kelly pitched seven shutout innings as Chris Sale’s strong start went down in vain. The Atlanta Braves had their chances (especially late) but they were unable to capitalize and ended up falling to the Diamondbacks in an uninspiring 2-1 defeat.

The Arizona Diamondbacks play the Atlanta Braves Wednesday evening at Truist Park, with a first pitch at 4:15 p.m. MST, 7:15 p.m. EST. The D-backs will be going for their first series victory since taking two of three from the Rockies May 16-18.
