A pregnant woman filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to restore the right to an abortion in Kentucky in the latest challenge to the state’s near-total ban on the procedure.

A new class action lawsuit alleges a woman who wants to terminate her pregnancy cannot get the care she needs in Kentucky.

A Kentucky woman who wants an abortion filed a lawsuit Tuesday to strike down the state’s near-total ban. The lawsuit alleges the woman, referred to as Mary Poe, is about seven weeks pregnant and is suffering severe harms because the government has denied her access to the care she needs.

Abortion is going back before Kentucky courts, with a new plaintiff agreeing to take on the state’s strict bans.

Currently, Kentucky has one of the strictest abortion bans in the nation. The overturn of Roe v. Wade in 2022 enacted the Commonwealth's "trigger law" from 2019. Directly, the statue reads:

The woman who filed the suit on Tuesday, identified under the pseudonym Mary Poe to protect her privacy, said she wants to terminate her pregnancy, because it is the best choice for herself and her family,
