The largest blaze of the California wildfire season, the Lake Fire in Santa Barbara County, grew to over 38,000 acres by Friday, fueled by gusty winds and extreme temperatures, authorities said.
As of July 13, the Santa Barbara County fire had burned 37,872 acres (59 square miles) and was 19% contained, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.
By Saturday night it was at 13,264 acres (20.7 square miles) with 0% containment, said the U.S. Forest Service’s fire management team. It’s already California’s fifth-biggest fire of the season.
