James Gunn ‘s Superman has taken flight at the box office. The highly anticipated superhero tentpole, from DC Studios and Warner Bros., earned $22.5 million in Thursday previews and other sneak showings at the North American box office.

“Superman” will easily defeat last week’s box office champion, Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth,” which is looking to make $35 million to $45 million in its second weekend, a 50% to 60% from its debut.

After nearly three years of development and public speculation, it is finally time to see if Warner Bros./DC Studios’ “Superman” can launch a brand-new cinematic universe and revitalize a superhero genre that is no longer the surefire box office behemoth it was in the 2010s.
