All sheriff's offices in Florida now have the ability to do street-level enforcement under an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The agreements are part of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement “task force model” program that DeSantis said would lead to “street-level” enforcement operations, adding that the plan calls for intensive training.

Agreements allow state law enforcement to perform immigration officer functions, including removing incarcerated criminal foreign nationals.

Gov. Ron DeSantis directed Florida law enforcement to enter into additional Memoranda of Agreement for immigration enforcement.

The program, 287(g), allows ICE to delegate authority to both state and local law enforcement to perform immigration officer functions under ICE’s direction.
