Michael Reinsdorf and Danny Wirtz bought $11 million-worth of more land for the megadevelopment around the United Center, called the 1901 Project.

The latest in a string of purchases from nearby parking lot operators gives the Reinsdorf and Wirtz families more control of the arena's environs as they move ahead with a $7 billion megadevelopment.

Project's first phase will bring a 6,000-seat music hall, 233-room hotel, retail space and two parking garages to the Near West Side. Construction will start this spring.
