By Luc Cohen NEW YORK (Reuters) -Alleged drug cartel boss Rafael Caro Quintero, who spent decades in prison in Mexico for the murder of a U.S. drug enforcement agent, pleaded not guilty in a U.S. court on Friday to drug trafficking charges that could result in his execution.

Mexico has handed over 29 drug cartel figures to the United States, including one of the FBI’s most wanted, Rafael Caro Quintero, in what observers say is a “show of compliance” by Mexican authorities.

Both men face a range of serious charges, including drug trafficking, murder conspiracy and weapons violations.

A drug cartel kingpin, known as the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s top target for his role in the killing of a DEA agent, was moved from Mexico to New York City.

The Mexican drug kingpin who was brought to the United States on Thursday is accused in the 1985 kidnapping, torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.
