Our reviewer has had tons of fun with the Switch 2, but there are some drawbacks. Here's what Nintendo's system gets right and where it falls short.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally, officially out, and Verge staffers have spent a bunch of time playing with it. The new console has a lot of improvements, like a bigger screen and an extra USB-C port. There’s a bunch of games to play, too, including a new Mario Kart and nice updates to older games.
Best Buy began selling the Switch 2 at its retail locations on June 5. It previously said it wouldn't sell the handheld at its online store during launch week, but it made additional consoles available on June 11 around 12PM ET. That restock lasted for the better part of an hour and required in-store pickup, but the device is now sold out again.
Nintendo just made a better Nintendo Switch, and that's a good thing. This powered-up console delivers in every way that counts, even with a couple of headaches at launch. Now, we just wait for more games.
The first Switch was such a hit that Nintendo decided not to mess with a good thing. Instead of releasing a successor that feels like a generational leap or a pivot in a new direction, it’s following up the hugely successful original with the Switch 2 — a welcome upgrade that largely sticks to the formula.

Like the first time around, Nintendo offers free Joy-Con replacements for the Switch 2, provided they’re still under warranty. The fine print stipulates that warranty only lasts a year, but historically Nintendo has been amenable to fixing controllers with an inactive warranty.
