Convert raw files to DNG is probably the best long term compatibility for raw files, although I expect that converts would still be able to read the old files for quite a long time.

Adobe has updated its Camera Raw plug-in with support for new cameras, and has also updated its DNG Converter utility as a Universal binary.

Choose a destination. The raw file and JPEG are now saved separately. The raw file will have an extension appropriate to the type of raw format it’s in, like .dng.
