Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially scrapped the animated Tiana series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series was to follow Princess Tiana from Disney’s 2009 film The Princess and the Frog.

Disney+ has been a great place for many of the studio’s top franchises to grow, as has been the case with both Marvel and Star Wars. However, what has worked for live-action projects hasn’t been quite as successful in animation.

Disney has officially shelved its highly anticipated Tiana series, disappointing fans who have waited years for the return of its groundbreaking princess character. The cancellation represents part of a larger strategic shift at Walt Disney Animation Studios as the entertainment giant moves away from producing long-form original content for its streaming platform.
