The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy as Basil Powell, 39, who had worked at the West Corrections Center for three years.

The victim was transported by Trauma Hawk helicopter to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
