BHATWADI, India, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Indian rescuers used helicopters on Thursday to pluck to safety people stranded by flood waters in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, two days after a sudden inundation and landslide killed four people, with more still missing.

Many people feared to be trapped after a huge torrent of mud and water surged down a mountain and crashed into the village of Dharali in India.

A flash flood swept through a village in the Himalayas in northern India on Tuesday. At least 50 people are missing and four are dead, with the toll expected to rise. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told a local news outlet at least 190 people have been rescued. “The disaster has completely hit the entire Dharali,” said Dhami.
