The Israeli Police said there had been "multiple confirmed fatalities" and injuries in the central area of the Tel Aviv District, where a rocket struck.

The broadcaster also showed people cheering in front of a large screen set up in Tehran to follow the strikes as if they were watching a soccer match.

The attack was in response to growing fears that Iran was aggressively pursuing a nuclear weapon, something that both the United States and Israel have made clear is unacceptable.
