NEW YORK -- Gavin Newsom hosts President Donald Trump's allies on his podcast. He's pushing city officials to crack down on homeless encampments. And this week, he proposed limiting health care coverage for immigrants in the country illegally.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled a wide-reaching plan to tackle the state's severe homelessness crisis that would direct hundreds of cities, towns and counties to effectively ban tent camping on sidewalks and parks, according to a statement released early Monday, May 12.

The state confirmed Wednesday that it will pay out $10 million, instead of $30 million, to California newsrooms for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
